What is a perfume decant?
A decant is a small quantity of fragrance transferred from a full retail bottle into a smaller sprayer. Same liquid, smaller container, a fraction of the price. Here is exactly how it works and when it is the right thing to buy.

The short answer
A perfume decant is fragrance taken from an original, sealed retail bottle and transferred into a smaller atomiser, usually between 2 ml and 10 ml. Nothing is added, diluted or reformulated. What arrives is the same liquid that was in the designer or niche bottle, in a container you can carry and finish.
Decanting exists because the economics of perfume are strange. A 100 ml bottle of a niche fragrance can cost more than a month of groceries, and you will not know whether it suits your skin until you have worn it for a week. A decant removes that gamble.
Decant, sample, tester: the difference
These three words get used interchangeably, but they are not the same thing.
- Decant. Fragrance transferred from a full retail bottle into a smaller sprayer by a third party. It is normally sold in neutral packaging and should be clearly described as rebottled.
- Official sample. A small vial produced or commissioned by the brand itself.
- Tester. A retail-size bottle intended for counters. It may use plain packaging or omit a cap, but it is not a smaller rebottled size.
Always read the exact format and size on the listing rather than assuming that sample, tester and decant mean the same thing.
How a decant is actually made
A third-party decant seller transfers fragrance from a source bottle into a smaller atomiser, labels the new container and seals it for sale. The seller should disclose that the item was independently rebottled, identify the concentration and volume, and explain how authenticity and hygiene are controlled.

When a decant is the right buy
A small format can be useful when you want to test a fragrance over several wears, compare several scents or carry less liquid while travelling. Airline, airport and destination rules can vary, so check the current rules before travel.
A full retail bottle is normally the clearer choice when you already wear the fragrance regularly or want the original brand presentation. OSMODI currently lists retail products, including brand-produced travel sizes and samples where that exact presentation is stated.
What a decant costs versus a full bottle
Per millilitre, a decant is more expensive than a full bottle. That is the trade. You pay a premium per millilitre in exchange for not spending several hundred dirhams on a fragrance you may dislike by day three.
The honest way to think about it: a decant is not a cheaper perfume, it is a cheaper decision.

Common questions
Is a decant the same fragrance as the full bottle?
Yes. A decant is the same liquid transferred into a smaller sprayer. Nothing is added or diluted. The only difference is the container.
How many sprays are in a 5 ml decant?
Roughly 50 sprays, depending on the atomiser. Most people use 2 to 4 sprays per wear, so a 5 ml decant covers about two to four weeks of regular use.
Do decants expire faster than full bottles?
Slightly, because there is more air relative to liquid and the container is opened more often. Stored away from heat and sunlight a decant will hold its character for well over a year, which is far longer than it takes to finish one.
Can I take a decant on a plane?
Small atomisers are often below common cabin liquid limits, but airline, airport and destination rules can change. Check the current rules for the complete journey before travelling.
Why not just buy the smallest bottle the brand sells?
Many niche houses do not sell anything under 50 ml, and where a 30 ml exists it often costs three quarters of the 100 ml price. A decant is usually the only small format available.
